Maisy-Leigh pictured here with her mother and father together with key worker Heidi Walton was awarded the Courageous Child of the Year at The Argus Community Star Awards event held at The Grand Hotel Brighton on Sun 20 Jan 19.
Maisy-Leigh suffers from a rare condition called Coffin Siris Syndrome. A rare genetic disorder that only affects around 200 people in the world. A condition that can range from mild to severe and can be life limiting. Any virus or illness could be life threatening.
Her mother says that since Maisy-Leigh started at Kamelia Kids she has become more independent and has come out of her shell. Having a child with such complex needs is hard work as this syndrome is so rare. They live each day as their last and say they have no regrets.
Since being at Kamelia Kids she has felt the warmth and the support of the staff feeling reassured and confident that this was the right nursery for her daughter. It hasn’t been easy, staff have had to undergo specialist training to ensure Maisy-Leigh’s needs are met. Her mother says the staff have done an amazing job and she cannot thank them enough, not just for her daughter but for them as a family; it has not only given Maisy-Leigh the freedom she deserves…but it also gives them the break that they need. She has become the most incredible confident child with a wonderful infectious smile, who is now able to interact with other children and make friends. Well done Maisy-Leigh we are so very proud of you. Maisy-Leigh has also been granted a wish from the charity Make a Wish to visit Disneyland Paris. She will be meeting Mickey Mouse - how wonderful is that!
